Proposal for a directive of the European parliament and of the council on adapting non-contractual civil liability rules to articial intelligence (AI liability Directive)

This proposal for a directive was established to adapt the rules on liability in the case of damage caused by devices containing AI. The different characteristics related to AI required special measures to be adapted, as the so-called “black box” effect of AI makes it more complex to identify the causes of damage caused by this type of product. Its objective is to reinforce the rights of AI users in case of damage caused by an AI system and to prevent legal gaps to allow potential claimants to obtain adequate compensation for the damage suffered.
